UK suppliers sought for Uganda airport works

UK suppliers are being sought for works on Uganda’s international airport.

SBC (Uganda), a UK-incorporated joint venture between Colas and SBI International Holdings AG, are looking for UK contractors to work on the UK government-backed project.

The Ugandan government has received £250M from the UK government’s Export Finance (UKEF), the largest ever loan to an African government, to deliver the project.

Colas is now inviting UK suppliers to attend the Uganda-UK Trade and Investment Convention on September 15 to express interest in building a new international airport in Hoima.

This airport will be the second international airport in Uganda and will initially support and service the oil and gas sector and infrastructure development in this part of Uganda.

The Department for International Trade is assisting with liaison with potential UK suppliers.

Colas director of strategic projects Carl Fergusson said: “With huge untapped natural resources, rapid urbanisation and attractive demographics, the requirement for investment in infrastructure to support continued regional development is clear, and this aligns well with the outward looking international element of the Colas Ltd strategy which seeks to expand our activities in East Africa.”
