Ugandan UK Convention has received a cheque worth $34,000 towards rehabilitating Nayakika Primary School

It was all cheers at the Ugandan UK Convention offices in the UK, when yet again another well-wisher donated about $34000 (90million Ug Shs) to reconstruct the derelict primary school in Ruhaama.

This donation was a positive response to the appeal made by the First Lady and Karamoja Affairs Minister Janet Museveni to a group of investors she met during her presentation at the 2nd UK Convention, back in September 2012. In the same appeal, another group of investors donated 2 tractors for Women of Karamoja and Tooro Babies’ Home.

When contacted, the Chairman of the Ugandan UK Convention, Mr. Mutenza said that “this is a great achievement and an indication that Uganda still has good friends who are willing to contribute to the eradication of poverty by contributing to good causes. Mutenza further said that it is ‘our duty as Ugandans in the Diaspora to be good-will Ambassadors to reach out not only to philanthropists but also to investors who can make an immense difference to our economy. This is also a fulfilment of the Convention’s objectives to mobilise investment into the country, as well as promoting philanthropy’.

Last year, another group of investors who journeyed to Uganda with Mr. Mutenza, pledged to invest in the construction of a modern maize mill in Gulu, the plans of which are already under way.

The Uganda Diaspora Investment Expo 2013 (UK Convention) is now the largest Ugandan gathering in Europe designed to promote Uganda and East Africa at large as a favoured investment destination in Africa. The Expo offers participants – private individuals and companies large and small – the opportunity to access our lucrative and often overlooked Diaspora market, not to mention the vast investment and business opportunities presented on the day by experts from Uganda and abroad. This year’s Convention will focus on and contribute to the economic empowerment of the Ugandan community through the Expo.

Mr. Willy Mutenza the Chairman of the Expo said “There are many benefits people will receive when they attend this Expo. Some of the essential benefits will be the discovery of new business and investment opportunities, networking, gaining priceless information, and improving personal business contacts, employment opportunities, finding potential business partners, as well as leisure enjoyment”.

The forum will discuss a selection of projects and will interact with delegates on many issues including; the investment climate, investing in ICT, job creation, youth development and employability, leveraging public private partnerships, Diaspora bonds, Uganda Stock, opportunities for Diaspora venture capital partnerships, to mention a few.
