On 15th Sept2012, some 2500 delegates will assemble at the Luxurious Troxy Arena in London to take part in the second annual Ugandan UK Diaspora Convention.
The theme of this year’s convention is ‘Aspiring for sustainable prosperity‘. The event promises to be the largest Diaspora-led conference and will bring together the Diaspora, intellectuals, policy-makers and business and industry leaders to confer on issues pertaining to the promotion and exchange of information, research and expertise order to achieve sustainable prosperity for every Ugandan.
It will also be an occasion to encourage new business interaction and relationships, identify potential opportunities in Uganda and mobilise Ugandans in the Diaspora to invest back home and increase its role in Uganda’s development.
The Diaspora has the intellectual and financial capital and capacity to directly influence the prosperity of others, by participation in socio-economic developments, as well as by lobbying and influencing the Ugandan government to tap into the “vast expertise” of Ugandan professionals in Europe.
Inspiring and encouraging a streamline unity among Ugandans in Europe is key to individual and national success and prosperity. ‘No one can do it alone, but together, everyone can succeed.’
The event is being organised by the Ugandan Diaspora in the UK. Proposed dignitaries will be officiated by the Vice President of Uganda, Hon. Edward Ssekandi, Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, Hon. Maria Kiwanuka, the business community and many others.
The Chairman of Ugandan UK Convention, Mr. Willy Mutenza said: “The convention is intended to provide a platform for the widely spread Diaspora to come together and interact. The initiative of this convention is supported by the Uganda Diaspora Desk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speakers at the convention are expected to include Hon. Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi – Vice President of Uganda (Guest of honour), Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga – Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, Hon. Maria Kiwanuka- Finance Minister of Uganda, Jennifer Musisi, KCC Executive Officer, Hon Amelia Kyambadde – Minister of Trade Industry and cooperatives, Hon. Tress Bucyanayandi (MP) – Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Hon. Henry Oryem Okello, Hon. Christine Amongin Aporu – Minister of State for Teso Affairs, Mr. Patrick Bitature, Bulaimu Muwanga Kibirige, owner Hotel Africana and many others.
