Ms. Chelangat Sarah Muzungyo:
Sarah’s tax career spans over a 20-year period. She started her tax career with the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) in the Domestic Tax department as a tax auditor where she advanced her tax knowledge with the Post Graduate Diploma in Tax Administration (PODITRA) at the URA training school.
Sarah worked in the various divisions of Domestic Tax namely; Audit, Collection, VAT refunds, Officer in Charge of Private Schools, Team Member Presumptive Tax Project, and team Member Audit of Top 20 IMF Taxpayers.
She later joined Ernst & Young as a Senior Tax Advisor where she worked for 10 years rising through the ranks from Manager, Senior Manager, and Associate Director of Tax. She draws her wealth of experience from both URA and EY on tax administration and advisory services in the different sectors of financial services, insurance, hospitality, construction, NGOs, Oil and Gas, telecommunication, consumer services and manufacturing. Sarah worked on the following assignments; transfer pricing, tax compliance, tax trainings, tax health checks, tax due diligences, restructuring assignments, tax controversies, tax negotiations with various clients.
Sarah also built tax regional experience having worked on tax advisory assignments with other Revenue Authorities in and out of East Africa namely Rwanda Revenue Authority and Somalia Revenue Authority.
She is a key member of the Technical committee on Taxation/Economic Policy at the ICPAU which handles tax proposals/budget proposals and lobbies with Ministry of Finance and Parliament of Uganda. She has previously served in the Marketing and Finance Committees at ICPAU.
She’s a Certified member of the Institute of Chartered Public Accountants of Uganda (CPA), and also an affiliate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT United Kingdom) where she was awarded an Advanced Diploma in International Tax (ADIT). She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce (Accounting Option) from Makerere University.
Over the years, Sarah has developed leadership skills from various trainings like Women as Leaders – University of Pretoria South Africa; Associate Director Leadership Program – South Africa; Senior Manager Leadership Training – Dublin, Ireland; and Manager Leadership Training – Amsterdam, Netherlands.
