A Feminine Cut….Tailored Suits and Shirts Exclusively for Women

Born in Uganda and raised in the United Kingdom, friends Emma Mohamed and Sonia Ygo are the designing duo behind Kamondi Couture, a new London based luxury women’s wear brand offers tailored suits and shirts exclusively for women. 

The brand was created in 2006 after the two friends were given traditional African fabrics as gifts while on holiday in Uganda. The uniquely patterned fabric inspired the pair to design tailor-made shirts. Following countless compliments, the pair spotted a gap in the market and saw great potential to offer well made shirts using unique and unusual prints.

In 2010, Emma and Sonia began designing a ready-to-wear collection which was featured at the Fashions Finest Renaissance fashion show in January 2011. They impressed the audience with their bold designs and quickly won acclaim for their creativity and interesting approach on women’s tailoring and are fast becoming renowned for their designs.

Refined with an elegant flair to suit the female form, inspiration is drawn from traditional features on men’s tailoring. . This season’s collection was created with an informal yet fashionable and classy take on women’s tailoring. Key pieces from the collection include a pinstripe short suit, a blue flared trouser suit and a fitted purple foliage print shirt.  

Kamondi Couture is about individual style and unique elegance.  Kamondi Couture’s pieces are designed to add sophistication to the women of today’s wardrobe, enabling her to dress up or down any look to make her own statement  A Kamondi woman is sophisticated, classy and she is extraordinary!

Since debuting in January 2011, the designers have  participated in a number of fashion events including Fashions Finest Renaissance, and Pure London, the UK’s leading trade fashion event for sourcing womenswear, young creative fashion for men and women, accessory and footwear brands.   Their charitable activities also include fundraising events for Save the Children’s ‘No Child Born to Die’ campaign and the African-Caribbean Leukaemia Trust.

Kamondi Couture will showcase their A/W2011 collection ‘Purple Rain’ at Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) on Friday, 5 August 2011 and are also set to feature amongst other renowned Ugandan fashion designers at the Uganda Fashion Show Extravaganza on Saturday, 27 August 2011.
