Ugandan Convention UK Committee is delighted to announce that Anglia Ruskin University will be attending the Ugandan Convention in UK.
Ms. Ritz Chandra, Country Development Manager of Anglia Ruskin University, told Ms. Rita Lutalo of Ugandan Convention UK that the reason for attending the convention was to raise the university’s profile, create awareness to parents, fees providers and applicants and ultimately to recruit students.
Ritz has been to Uganda and during her visit she said, “I had a pleasant experience, found the people welcoming, friendly, very good natured, and well behaved and was made to feel at home. The University already recruits Ugandan students as they have good grades obtained from their Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) and I am pleased to say that they are hardworking students. Anglia Ruskin University is committed to recruiting Ugandan students and as such we attend British Council Education Fairs, school fairs and have agents in the country. The majority of Ugandan students at Anglia Ruskin University enrol in under or post graduate Business and Management courses. Recently the university has been receiving enquiries about Bsc. & Msc. Public Health and Nursing courses.”
When asked what happens to the students after their studies, Ritz replied, “Anglia Ruskin University is proud about the support it offers its students after studies. We have organisations that actively target our students and this is done through several Job fairs held each year at the university. We also have an Employment Bureau where students are encouraged to register their cvs and once the appropriate jobs comes along, they are informed and assisted with their application forms.
We have one of the highest employability rates in the higher education sector with 91%* of our graduates go into work or further study. In some study areas this figure is exceeded, for example
- 94%* of our nurses gain employment in the sector
- 98% of our students with Qualified Teaching Status gain employment
- 3 out of 4 of our full-time graduates enter employment in the region

Our former students include: Pink Floyd members Syd Barrett and David Gilmour, Ronald Searle (creator of St Trinian’s), Peter Fluck and Roger Law (creators of Spitting Image), David Driver (Head of Design at The Times), Nicholas Crane (presenter of Coast and Great British Journeys), the Attorney General, Baroness Patricia Scotland and Lord Ashcroft KCMG, one of the outstanding businessmen of his generation.
We are currently working with the following high-profile employers: Harrods, Barclays, UPS, Boots, Vision Express and Specsavers.”
International students including Ugandans are treated to a week’s orientation which includes a tour of the university’s campuses, Cambridge and Chelmsford. The students get to know their lecture rooms, sports centres, onsite Doctor’s surgery locations to name but a few. Ugandan students are introduced to the African Society which helps a great deal with their transition. The university also offers language support services for students who need to brush up on their language skills. They also arrange orientation visits to both cities.
